About the Sale
Welcome to our 23rd Final 2024 End of the Year Auction of Collectibles, Antiques, Books, Ephemera, Art, Pottery and Porcelain! We search New England for the best, easy to ship and affordable items that we host ...view moreon our auctions. Our consignors and the items we find as well are priced and our price estimates are usually lower than similar items found in antique stores or online shops. Check out this auction and sign up for new notices via your Auction Ninja account! This auction will feature ephemera from an estate between a former governor of Massachusetts, a member of the US Senate, House of Representatives and members of the Judicial courts, a set of letters written by John Davis (January 13, 1787 – April 19, 1854) to Emory Washburn (February 14, 1800 – March 18, 1877). The First Letter offered discusses the nearly last fatal duel in Washington DC because of a dispute on the House of Representatives floor, reported by Davis to Washburn. The acrimony between the North and the South spills out all over Washington DC and around the country. Soon to come will be the Missouri Compromise, The abandonment of the compromise and the Dred Scott decision which propels our nation into the most bloodiest of civil wars. Washburn and Davis were at the heart of this emerging conflict. Other important letters to follow! Also are a collection of floral prints done in the early 1800s all hand colored and fresh to the market. Northshore paintings by a Marblehead artist as well! New items are being added daily so mark us for a follow up and check back. We list items right up to about 4 hours BEFORE the beginning of the close of the auction! Good luck bidding!
Special Instructions
We load new items daily into the auction, so check back frequently as auction items change. We are generally a ship only service but if you live near us, contact us for a potential pickup point ...view moreand time for pickup. All international and USA shipments are by USPS and are shipped only to the registered address with the account at Auction Ninja. No exceptions for shipment other than to the address on the account. We charge a 20% buyer's premium, and we carry items that reflect a higher value than that which is normally seen on Auction Ninja. We have consignors that have set reserves on their valuable items and because you win a low bid DOES NOT MEAN you have won the item. Calix Books will cancel all low bids at its sole discretion to protect our consignors’ valuable objects, art, books, porcelain, ephemera or other items. Auction Ninja does NOT provide a reserve auction restriction and while we may start an item at a low starting price, look closely at the 'Estimated Value' of the item. Our goal is to provide the bidder with a fair market value assessment while also ensuring that our consignors are protected as well. If you are a low-ball bidder, this auction is probably not for you. We are NOT in the business of giving valuable goods away at yard sale prices. We ARE in the business of providing good, high-quality Antiques and collectibles at a fair price for both the bidder and the consignor. A negative report because your bid was rejected, and your money returned, will bar you from ever participating in any of Calix Books auctions in the future. All sales are final, and all bidders must consult outside sources or advisors about any items at our auction. We do the best we can to describe objects, but we will NOT be held liable for anything we say, write or communicate with words or images. By registering and bidding on this auction or any other auction by Calix Books you accept these terms and conditions as well as all the terms and conditions of Auction Ninja and Chase Bank. ALL SALES ARE FINAL, NO EXCEPTIONS.
