Item Description

Late Meiji To Mid-Taisho Period Yellow 14 Inch Charger With Kutani Arita Saga Prefecture Marks. Late Meiji to Mid Taisho Period Charger in Royal Yellow Color (China and not Japan) with impressed mark of the Kiln in Saga Prefecture. The in-porcelain pressed mark was used in the period of 1910-20. The charger shows two long women as they are called, floating on a bed of flowers with auspicious yellow coloring around the rim, indicating that it was intended for a royal use (at least in China). Platters or chargers of this size were used to serve dishes in restaurants and large gatherings of guests. Often decorated with attractive foods, artistically positioned to highlight the event or the serving of the food.

and still operates today. Yamatoku (Mountain virtue). Mark when impressed is
in 'katagana' characters. Arita, Imari porcelain.

Japanese porcelain was born in Saga Prefecture in northern Kyushu. Crafted since the beginning of the 17th century, this 400-year-old art is widely celebrated as the epitome of Japanese porcelain. Despite being made in the Arita region, it was shipped out via Imari Port and was thus known as “Imari” porcelain. Loved for its vibrant, colorful designs, many modern Imari-Arita ware artisans continue to adorn their pieces with the dazzling patterns of their ancestors. Antique pieces, referred to as “Ko-Imari,” are scarce and valuable, attracting avid collectors across the globe. Imari-Arita ware is registered as a traditional Japanese craft by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Notes: Great condition, see images. No cracks.
