Item Description

Fred J. Ascani (born Alfredo John Ascani;(1917-2010) was an American major general and test pilot of the United States Air Force. He was one of the "Men of Mach 1" and was considered the father of systems engineering at Wright Field. Flew combat mission over Germany and Europe. One of his squadrons were attacked by over 200 German pilots, they had no air support and nearly all died or were captured. He was instrumental in setting up the Mach 1 program. Letter is a copy and not original. These are NOT First Day covers but they are signed by him and original as received. The Stamp was NEVER approved for ISSUE and the cancellation was made by the creator of this set and sent to the pilot for signing.
