Francis M. Fleming (1916-1999) Francis Fleming became a World War II Navy ACE, credited with shooting down 7.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as a Fighter Pilot in Fighting Squadron SIXTEEN (VF-16), embarked in U.S.S. LEXINGTON (CV-16), over the Philippine Sea on 19 and 20 June 1944. Distinguished Service Cross and Gold Medal for his service during WWII.
