Early Chinese/Japanese Bowl Repaired With Kintsugi Or Repaired With Japanese Resin And Gold Powder. Early Dragon Bowl with designed mark dating the piece into the early 18th or late 17th century. Repairs are old but dish is holding. Foot rim matches early pieces as does the double ring. Possibly early Arita ware mimicking early Chinese dragon bowls. Measures: 6.25 inches across, 1 inch high with the base at 3.75 with underglaze blue double ring and foundry mark (one we have not seen and it looks like a flower pot on a small table, possibly signifying the all important tea ceremony).
We ship via USPS and a signature of receipt is required. Shipping and packaging cost will be to Japan $70.00; Europe and the UK is $55 and within the US $18.00. All shipments are sent Priority (overseas) or Ground or Priority in the US and packaged accordingly.

The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and porcelain using a lacquer and powdered gold or silver is called kintsugi. The word kintsugi translates to "join with gold", and the technique is based on the idea that embracing flaws can create a stronger and more beautiful piece. Instead of masking the breaks, kintsugi highlights them to tell the object's story, and pieces that have been repaired using this technique are often considered more valuable than before.
Notes: Formerly broken and repaired. See images.
