Item Description

Doulton Lambeth Silicon Ware Jug around 1885. The jug is impressed or printed mark on Silicon Stoneware c. 1880-1932. The word 'England' was added after 1891. Making this piece prior to 1891 and our estimate is circa 1885. The two letters, P and D followed by either and zero or the letter O.

The Art Nouveau period was a compelling and energetic style in the visual arts which spanned from around the early 1890s to the First World War. Art Nouveau artists, inspired by plant forms and nature, took organic subjects, and flattened and abstracted them into sophisticated, sinuous, and flowing motifs. The flower motifs are present in stylized black and lime green flowers, highlighted by white small beads on impressed what looks like stylized fleur de lys but could be another leaf type plant that has been impressed into the surface of the jug. The jug is 9.5 inches tall. One small white ceramic button appears to be missing from the top rim in between the black flowers. No other cracks with a glazed interior. A very rare pattern with unknown artist marks (or at least we couldn’t find them).

Notes: Very good condition. No cracks with one small white pip missing at the top rim. See photos.
