Harry George Webb (1862 - 1936) was a painter, etcher, and wood engraver active in London from the 1880's onwards. Between 1887 and 1893 he exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Dudley Gallery, London Salon, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London; the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; and at Manchester City Art Gallery. The census of 1901 records him as a 'Paper Agent'. Harry Webb and his wife, Heska Dora, lived in Bedford Park from about the time of their marriage in 1889. Their Caradoc Press (named after a hill near Heska's Shropshire birthplace) produced 20 books and two volumes of the art magazine The Acorn. They executed all the printing and wood engraving themselves, usually in red and black inks on hand-made paper.
During 1909-1914 Webb worked for the Art Chronicle in Fleet Street. After his active service in World War 1, the Webbs moved to Compass House, 61 Strand on the Green, and operated the press from the basement.
Harry George Webb's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $35 USD to $170 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2005 the record price for this artist at auction is $170 USD for The Port of London, sold at Wilson55 in 2022. His smaller etchings are quite collectible.
