The doctor at home: treating the diseases of man and the horse. A practical handbook for the non-professional. 96 numbered pages with frequent images, print engravings. Surface of cover is tattered and some loss of paper at the spine and edges. Separation of first two pages, but all are present. Last page also separating. Paper covers with advertisement and graphics throughout including some examples of the diseases of man and horse! Toned throughout but very readable. Only 20+ libraries have copies. Was first produced in 1881, this is the 1884 edition with as noted ‘…extensive additions.’. A rare item.
Written in plain, simple language so as to be easily understood by the common people. It treats all the common diseases of the human family and gives a large number of excellent receipts and favorite prescriptions for various diseases, with engravings to illustrate many points of interest. Also, an essay on hygiene, a table of doses, with proportional doses for children; and, in Part Second, the diseases of the horse are plainly treated, with the plainest and best treatment that can be given under most circumstances; and a table of doses for the horse, a table showing the age of the horse, a large number of excellent receipts for the horse, and a large amount of other valuable information.
