1733 A Title Deed transfer of building and land owned by Joseph Burrell of Boston, a shipwright; sold to Samuel Stride, shipwright on Hull Street in Boston. Witnessed by John Procter, shipwright and captain, Mary Harris, Recorded by Joseph Wadsworth (minister) and approved by John Ballantine, lawyer for the county of Suffolk book 48, lot 876a. With what appears to be a King George II paper pressed image seal.
The Procter's, Burrell's and Stride's were all important merchant captain's shipwrights and Boston merchants. Burrell's ship, The Rattler participated in the Revolutionary War. Wordsworth was also an important Puritan presence in Boston and head of the major Boston church.
The document has holes, tears and has been conserved with museum conservator's acid free tapes. Pages are separated across written lines, sometimes effecting sentences and words but it is written in a bold clear period hand and easy to read. Defines also the property lines that show just how small the house was.
Images were found that may represent the house, which is no longer there, as well as images of Hull Street in Boston today. A historic and rare document from early Puritan days in Boston. See images as it also retains George II water mark in the paper and shows the separations that were repaired and stabilized.
Notes: See images but torn, stained, toned, and repaired using Museum conservator's acid free tapes, sometimes effecting text, sentences. Pages had separated but were repaired.
