Antique Last Rites Call Box - Viaticum Wooden Cabinet With Religious Accoutrements"

Presenting a fascinating piece of Christian religious history, this antique Last Rites Call Box, also known as a Viaticum, is a testament to the practices Crafted from rich wood, this hinged cabinet opens to reveal a home altar, complete with silver-plated religious icons and accessories.

The interior is lined with purple fabric, symbolizing royalty and suffering in the Christian liturgy, often associated with Lent or Advent. Included within are items typically used for the Eucharist or communion as part of the Last Rites ceremony for the sick and dying. The centerpiece is an ornate silver-plated candelabra, flanked by a holy water bottle and a small bell. The back panel features a cross and an IHS Christogram embossed on a radiant plate, which was traditionally used to hold the Eucharist host.
