Cori was super easy to deal with on this transaction even though I had a company pick up my item. I would buy from Barton's again without hesitation. Thanks!
We loved the look of this 70s steelcase sofa in plaid wool and the condition was listed as "Vintage Excellent," so we knew we had to win it. When we returned home with the sofa, we found that there was a brown/reddish dust coating underneath the seats. The cushions were also covered in the same dust. We were able to superficially vacuum some dust off of these areas. Upon some further research online, it looks like it's dust created from foam breakdown in the cushions. I unzipped one them and part of the foam was almost completely disintegrated into clumps of the same dust.
None of this was mentioned in the original post and we'll now have to clean the cushions and replace the foam with poly fill or foam cut to size. I understand that these are vintage pieces and a certain amount of wear and tear is to be expected, however, this goes beyond reasonable vintage damage, especially for a product listed in "excellent' condition and without mention of issues with the cushions.
When I asked the seller to at least reimburse us the amount it would cost to cover the cushion repair, they pointed out that "The sofa is listed as in vintage condition and it is well worth more than what you purchased it for. Even if you spent you money changing the cushions you could still resell it for triple what you purchased it for."
We really love this sofa and aren't interesting in selling it nor do we want to gouge Barton Co. out of the money we paid them, we simply want a partial reimbursement that would cover the foam replacement.
They last informed us that they cannot offer a partial refund.
******UPDATE AFTER SELLER'S RESPONSE*************
After learning that her client had previously failed to indicate the damage to the cushions, Cori fairly agreed to a partial refund to cover the cushion repair. The misrepresented condition seems to be at no fault of Barton Co. and I'm glad we came to an understanding. Looking at their other glowing reviews, this incident seems to have been a fluke and I hope buyers know they can still trust Burton Co's quality. My wife and I are thrilled that we'll soon have the mint vintage sofa we first fell in love with.
Cori and her team did a fantastic job! The communication was top notch as well as the ease in picking up my items without hassle or delay. Plus the items were listed and described accurately. I would also recommend subscribing to their listings. Double thumbs up!!!
The one good thing was the friendliness of the women who helped me. I did have to ask for a few items from my barware set, but I was otherwise happy with that. I also had to come back to retrieve a missing pan from my set. The waffle maker was advertised as "new in box". It was not. It was dirty and had grease stains and crumbs. The air fryer was also dirty with crumbs. That was advertised as used, but I just feel it would be common courtesy to make sure it's at least wiped clean. There were crumbs in the back seat of my car. Again, the women, and the young girl were all very friendly and helpful. I am also very happy with my barware.
It's a joy to work with Barton & Co. Very responsive and reputable. I look forward to their auctions.
