This lovely lady became a pilot of Piper Cub planes at Sky Ranch in Denver her Freshman year of college. When she graduated from CU in 1948 she went by ship to Alaska, where she taught for two years in a one-room schoolhouse on the lower Yukon, only accessible by bush plane or boat. Then she taught for two years in Chugiak, where wild lands were being homesteaded. In 1954 she returned to Boulder and met her husband. He worked as a geologist with the US Geological Survey and was involved in an archeological dig in Mexico. They spent three winters in Mexico for his field work. They lived in Mexico for part of each year between 1963 and 1965, spent field seasons in Santa Fe, Wyoming and Idaho and traveled extensively abroad. She was a lead organizer of the Elementary School Spanish program in Boulder and became the librarian for Reading to End Racism. She took art classes at CU, working her way through the curriculum. At age 57 she returned to CU for a master's in fine art (MFA) focusing her creativity on depictions of Colorado landscapes.
While she was teaching in Alaska, she started painting. Her grandmother was an artist of some note in Boulder. She and a friend had a show at the Boulder Library.
