2 Antique Engravings From "The Four Stages Of Cruelty" After Hogarth

Listed are 2 18th century engravings by F.F. Walker after the original by William Hogarth
(1697-1764). Hogarth created this print series “in the hopes of preventing in some degree that cruel treatment of poor Animals which makes the streets of London more disagreeable to the human mind, than any thing what ever...” The prints were intended as a form of moral instruction for the lower classes.
One engraving is the Second Stage of Cruelty.
Measures: 17"h x 14.75"w overall, image measures 8.25"w x 5.72"w
Nicely framed and matted with a flecked linen mat, blue and brown under mats and a metal twist filet
The other engraving is the First Stage of Cruelty. Measures: 11" x 14" with frame; 5.5" x 8" without. There are a few age marks both on the mat & the engraving border.
