Gordon C. Abbott (American, 1882-1951) "The Washing Pool" Taxco Mexico circa 1937 - PENCIL SIGNED
Gordon C. Abbott was a prominent American photographer leaving behind a rich legacy in the field of photography. He was a member of the esteemed Chicago Camera Club and served as its president for several years. Abbott had a studio in Chicago and spent his winters in Taxco, Gro. Mexico, where he also had a studio. He had a passion for capturing the essence of Latin America through his photographs and is known for capturing some of the most iconic scenes of Mexico and its people. Abbott's work is highly regarded and can be found in numerous public and private collections, including The Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum in New York, Library of Congress Prints and Photography in Washington D.C., The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery in Scripps College, Claremont, California, Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona, and National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, Illinois. Some of his work has been auctioned at Christie's in New York City.

Notes: Gordon Abbott was a photographer who was active in the Chicago Camera Club and served as its president for many years. He maintained a studio in Chicago, but spent winters in Taxco, Gro. Mexico where he also had a studio. From here, he traveled and photographed Latin America. He has captured some of the most iconic scenes of Mexico and its people, helping to attract more artists to this area. Abbott’s work can be found in many private and public collections. Some of these include The Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY), Library of Congress Prints and Photography (Washington, DC), The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery (Scripps College, Claremont, CA), Center for Creative Photography (Tucson, AZ), National Museum of Mexican Art (Chicago, IL). His work has been auctioned at Christie’s, N.Y.C.
