Emmanuel Villanis was a French sculptor renowned for his small-scale bronze statuettes that blended the styles of traditional Neoclassicism with the graceful lines of Art Nouveau. Villanis's depictions of the female form often incorporated elements of mythology and floral adornments, and conveyed an impression of eroticism through sensuous, ecstatically posed nudes. Born on December 12, 1858, in Lille, France, Villanis pursued his education at the Accademia Albertina in Turin before relocating to Paris in 1885. Throughout his career, he produced an extensive range of busts, which earned him international acclaim. Villanis passed away on August 28, 1914, in Paris, France, at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of outstanding artistic achievements.
