Item Description

this beautiful mid-20th Century Boehm stamped porcelain baby blue jay, Measures 4 1/4" tall and the base measures 3” 3/8 diameter. Has the horse emblem, Boehm, Baby Blue Jay, 436, made in U.S.A. stamp on the base. Circa 1957. Features a gorgeous porcelain baby blue jay perched on a brown base that has brown and green leaves with a blossom flower on the right rear. Has beautiful colors of light gray around the wide part of the neck to inner, the feathers have black, white and light blue throughout with a slight brush of light blue on the head. The underbelly is a gorgeous grey. The eyes on the fledging look almost real and glossy. The figurine is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or restorations.
Boehm figurines were created by Edward Marshall Boehm. He was a ceramic artist who incorporation his passion of art with his love of nature to produce figurines of birds, animals and flowers in background settings accurate to the tiniest detail. His first works were made in the very early 1950's in Trenton, New Jersey under the name of Osso Ceramics. He died in 1969 and the firm has since been managed by his wife. True Boehms are marked with various backstamps, all of which have incorporated the Boehm name since 1951.
This gorgeous piece would definitely grace any room well. A great addition for any Boehm or bird collector.
