Scarce and terrific vintage scarf designed by John Lavalle, circa 1945, printed white silk featuring motifs related to the Twelfth Air Force, including its triangular insignia, images of airplanes and falling bombs, and aircraft names (including Culpepper Jinx, Red the Wrecker, Little Sarocco, Hoo Doo Hawk, etc.), bearing the design patent number D140144, measuring approx. 32" x 36".
The patent application for this design (which may be viewed in its entirety at Google Patents), notes that the designer, John Lavalle, was in the army at the time the patent was granted. Fantastic for wear or for display in a frame or on a wall as part of your World War II or vintage fashion collection.
Notes: CONDITION: Small hole to blank background near top (a few pinholes elsewhere), and light scattered wrinkling, otherwise clean, fine, attractive, well-preserved condition overall.
