VINTAGE HAMMERED SILVERPLATE FISH-FORM RELIGIOUS BOWL OR TRAY, BELGIUM, MID 20TH CENTURY

Handsome vintage bowl or tray, Made in Belgium, mid 20th century, in the form of a stylized fish of hand-hammered silverplate with curved inner "ledge" to one side of rim, gold-washed interior, the tail with applied Christian Chi Rho (PX monogram), the overall dimensions approx. 9.5" x 4-5/8" x 1", memorial inscription engraved on ledge, the underside stamped "Made in Belgium," the top of the tail with small stamped "FJ" (presumably maker's monogram).

A particularly striking example in bold high modernist style, evidently intended for ecclesiastical use (perhaps as a baptismal bowl).

CONDITION: A touch of mild surface wear, otherwise very fine, attractive condition, with no breaks, bends, or dents.
