Item Description

Stunning vintage vase by Franz Grosz/Groszart Glass Co., the blank by Tiffin, 1940s–1950s, of pedestal form with circular foot, flattened ball standard, and flaring bowl with molded horizontal optic ribs and ground rim, the exterior deeply sand etched with a stylized flower motif, 7-1/8" tall, with engraved signature "Franz Grosz."

Grosz, born in New York City in 1909, studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design and exhibited his work at the National Academy, Corcoran Gallery, Pennsylvaia Academy of Fine Arts, the 1939 New York World's Fair, and elsewhere. In the 1940s he founded his own company, Groszart Glass Co., using sand etching to engrave his own designs on blanks from other firms. (The present design was officially known as Rose Carving/No. 307.)


Notes: CONDITION: In very fine, beautifully preserved condition, with no cracks or chips, retaining full original crystal clarity throughout.
