Vintage wall hanging designed by Frances Butler for Strömma, Sweden, circa 1970, screenprinted stretched linen, depicting two elephants, approx. 26" x 26", marked on the overlap "strömma sweden by frances butler."
Butler, born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1940, earned an M.A. in Design at UC Berkeley in 1966. She went on to run a business making hand-printed textiles and co-found the Poltroon Press, a small press in the San Francisco Bay area. Her textile work is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
CONDITION: Some very faint, subtle discoloration to right side, otherwise clean, fine, and attractive.
