Two vintage cigar-related items, including: 1) Scarce antique cigar box humidor advertising Bank Note 5¢ cigar, first quarter 20th century, red oak with metal liner, the lid with decorative brass plate, the overall dimensions 9-3/4" x 6-3/4" x 3-1/2"; 2) Rare original vintage box for Cape Codder cigars, distributed by E. C. Hall Co., Brockton and Hyannis, Massachusetts, 1942–1959, ink-stamped finger-jointed cedar with brass hinges, 10-1/8" x 4-7/8" x 2-7/8", retaining identifiable remnants of the original Class E/50 Cigars revenue stamp.
The Bank Note humidor is a lesser-seen advertising example intended to hold an entire box intact. The Cape Codder box is rare; I was unable to locate a single other box from this brand, or indeed, any online reference to it.
CONDITION: Bank Note humidor with light surface wear (old paint splashes to front panel; Some tiny spatters on lid); some scattered corrosion and a few small holes to liner (lacking central clip for damp sponge); still sound, sturdy, and very good overall, with untouched original patina; Cape Codder box with touch of mild scattered soiling, otherwise clean, sturdy, attractive, and fine overall.
