TWO ANTIQUE CHINOISERIE PAPIER-MACHE ITEMS, INCLUDING A BOX AND CRUMB TRAY, 19TH CENTURY

Two antique chinoiserie decorative papier-mâché items, probably European, 19th century, including: 1) Cylindrical box with slightly domed lid, the exterior decorated in the round with metallic colors outlined and accented in black against a cinnabar-colored lacquer background, including a seated figure holding a pan next to a tree; a seated man with net leaning toward a large bowl of goldfish; a seated figure leaning to dip a ladle into a low vessel; and the lid with two seated figures sitting on a rug with a tray, one holding a tea bowl, the other reaching up to feed a bird on a perch, the overall dimensions approx. 2-3/4" high by 3" in diameter; 2) Crumb tray of scalloped form, depicting a scene with two acrobats, a woman holding an infant, and a boy holding a turtle against a black lacquer background, approx. 8-5/8" x 8-5/8".

CONDITION: Mild surface wear; small losses to lower corners of crumb tray; the box very fine, the tray very good, both retaining a pleasing, untouched mellow patina.
