William John Huggins (after; 1781 - 1845), engraved by Charles Rosenberg: "Trial of the R.Y.S. Brig Water Witch, on the 6th Sept. 1832, off the Scilly Islands with H.M. Ships Vernon, Castor & Snake," original engraving and aquatint with hand coloring, 1834, identified in the lower margin "Painted by W. J. HUGGINS Marine Painter to His Majesty and Published by Him at 105 Leadenhall Street August 12th 1834," image size 14-3/4" x 9-1/2", visible sheet size 15-1/4" x 10-5/8", attractively matted and framed under glass (in patinated gilded wood) to an overall size of 22-1/4" x 18-1/4".
Huggins, best known for his maritime views, earned the patronage of George IV and to William IV. Another impression of this image is in the collection of the Royal Museums Greenwich.
Notes: Faint marginal toning; a few tiny, very faint spots to sky; a bit of subtle fading to color; otherwise very good to near fine condition overall
