Scarce and very fine pitcher by Michel Alexandrov, Vallauris, France, France, 1950s–1960s, the body of bulbous form with large, prominent spout projecting diagonally from the side of the upper half, allover sgraffito decoration featuring flowers, spirals, and geometric motifs, finished in mottled polychrome glazes in tones of pale blue, gray, and burnt umber, 9" tall, the underside with the artist's incised "Allix" signature.
A particularly distinctive vessel from this foremost French potter (born circa 1910), who studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and later opened the Allix workshop in Vallauris. Alexandrov's work is quite uncommon in examples of this large size and unusual form. A true treasure for the collector of mid-century-modern or French pottery!
CONDITION: In excellent, beautifully preserved condition, with no cracks, chips, crazing, or staining.
