SCARCE ANTIQUE FIGURAL BABY SOAP IN BOX, CIRCA 1895 - 1905

Scarce and charming figural baby soap manufactured by Monarch Soap Co., Lancaster, Pennsylvania, circa 1895–1905, the soap molded in the round as a full-length young child, in the original pictorial box, the soap approx. 4-1/2" tall.

An unusual and unexpected survival that exemplifies the meaning of "ephemeral." The Monarch Soap Co. is known to have made similar figural baby soaps for the 1896 presidential campaign.

CONDITION: Fine superficial "crazing" to soap (smooth surface, with no fissures, losses, crumbling, etc.); wear to box (separation at one corner; one shorter panel missing); otherwise fine, attractive, well-preserved condition, the soap never used and in virtual time-capsule condition.
