Roslyn Strong (American, 1920–2020): Basket II, limited edition pressed paper relief, circa 1970s, plate size approx. 15" x 9", numbered, titled, and signed in pencil in the lower margin, "178/250, Basket II, Roslyn Strong," cloth-and-ribbon matted and framed under glass to an overall size of 22-1/4" x 16-1/4"
Strong, a graduate of Textile High School (now F.I.T.) in New York City, opened a textile studio in the city's Garment District in the 1940s, producing hand-dyed clothing and accessories. in 1949 she married Harris G. Strong in 1949 and they started a company that made and decorative ceramics, wall hangings, and other artwork. In 1969 they moved the business to Maine, where Roslyn later established the Strong Craft Gallery, featuring the work of Maine craftspeople. She died in Maine just two months after her hundredth birthday.
CONDITION: A few tiny spots to interior of glass (unobtrusive scratch to exterior), otherwise fine, attractive condition.
