Rare candlestick by Wannopee Pottery, New Milford, Connecticut, circa 1890–1900, the buff clay body of chamberstick form with wide, slightly domed circular foot, subtly tapering shaft, shallow cuplike rim, and ring-shaped handle, finished in a tortoiseshell- or agate-patterned flint glaze, approx. 8" tall by 5-1/2" in diameter at the base, the underside with impressed "Wannopee" mark.
A striking example from this short-lived New England pottery, which operated for 16 years beginning in 1887. Quite uncommon in this model.
CONDITION: Chip to rim; break to inner hollow double wall of shaft (visible only inside the candle hole, the outer/exterior wall completely unaffected); otherwise good, attractive condition overall.
