Rare and unique original antique mold for a hairbrush handle, circa 1890–1910, solid heavy cast metal, depicting a hunting dog in pursuit of a flying duck among cattails and water lilies, 8-3/4" long by 2-1/4" wide (maximum).
A very scarce and particularly striking survival evidently used as a master to produce a mold for the handle of a hairbrush in sterling silver, silverplate, or possibly even celluloid (all of which were then common in the production of toilet articles). The flowing, organic lines of the plants suggests a distinct Art Nouveau influence dating to the turn of the twentieth century.
CONDITION: In fine condition, with no breaks or losses, retaining a rich, pleasing untouched patina.
