Blätter aus A. Hendschel's Skizzenbuch [Leaves from A. Hendschel's Sketchbook], published by F. A. C. Prestel, Frankfort, circa 1870, half leather with gilt-stamped spine, 12-1/4" x 9-1/2", approx. 50 single-sided pages.

A compilation of drawings, mostly figures and genre scenes, by the German artist Albert Hendschel (1834–1883). The book is notable in that each reproduction is an actual albumen photograph (by Theodor Huth) mounted to a single-sided sheet of thin cardstock—a particularly early example of the use of photography in book illustration.

CONDITION: Wear to binding with a few small losses to leather; a few occasional faint, minor spots to interior; otherwise very good condition overall.
