Judith Shahn (American, 1929–2009): "Woman with Basket," limited edition color screenprint on handmade fibrous cream Japan paper, circa 1970s, numbered in pencil "A[rtist's] P[roof] V" at lower left and signed "Judith Shahn" at lower right, sight size 33-1/2" x 21-3/4", handsomely presented under plexiglass in a natural light wood frame with coarse-woven-fiber mat measuring 41" x 29-1/4" overall, the reverse bearing the label of Shahn's gallerist in Wellfleet.

One of the largest prints produced by this accomplished artist, daughter of the important social realist painter Ben Shahn. After attending the High School of Music & Art in New York City, Judith Shahn studied at Olivet College and earned her degree at Mexico City College and later undertook graduate work at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She earned wide renown as an illustrator, producing several covers and scores of drawings for the New Yorker, as well as such publications as Mademoiselle, Gourmet, Readers Digest and the Boston Globe. She was active in art scene on Cape Cod, where she lived and worked for decades before she died at the age of 80.
