Judith Shahn (American, 1929–2009): "Blue Pitcher with Leafy Branches" (Still Life), limited edition color silkscreen, circa 1975, signed and numbered in pencil at lower right "2/98, Judith Shahn," image size 23" x 15-3/8", matted and framed under glass in a wood-reinforced metal frame measuring 30-1/4" x 24-1/4" overall.
Daughter of the important social realist painter Ben Shahn, Judith Shahn was an accomplished artist in her own right. After attending the High School of Music & Art in New York City, she studied at Olivet College and earned her degree at Mexico City College and later undertook graduate work at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She earned wide renown as an illustrator, producing several covers and scores of drawings for the New Yorker, as well as such publications as Mademoiselle, Gourmet, Reader's Digest, and the Boston Globe. She was active in art scene on Cape Cod, where she lived and worked for decades before she died at the age of 80.
