John Paul Reardon (American, 1914ā2003): "Rockport Harbor" and "October, New England" (two paintings), watercolor and gouache on paper, circa 1940sā1950s, each signed "J. P. Reardon" at lower right and further titled and signed in pencil on the mat, sight sizes approx. 9-3/8" x 6-1/8" and 9-1/8" x 6", matted and framed under glass in identical painted oak frames measuring 14-5/8" x 11-1/2" overall.
A graduate of Clark University, Reardon was a co-founder of the visual arts department at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he enjoyed a 30-year career beginning in 1984. In 1985, he established a medal and award for art students at Holy Cross that still bears his name. His own work included watercolors, commercial illustrations, and, in later decades, oil paintings in a more modernist vein, as well as occasional forays into other media such as mosaics and stained glass.
Notes: Light wear to frames; toning to mats (no evident effect to paintings); otherwise fine, clean condition (not examined outside frames)
