Item Description

John Haymson (Austrian-American, 1902–1980): "State Capitol, Boston, Massachusetts," silkscreen on paper, titled and signed in the image, sight size 11-7/8" x 7-7/8", double-matted under glass in a satin-finished pale gold metal frame measuring 17-1/8" x 13-1/8" overall.

Haymson studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art and, early in his career, designed stage sets and costumes for the noted impresario Max Reinhardt. Fleeing Hitler's Austria in 1938, Haymson settled in the U.S. in the following year and found work writing film synopses for Warner Brothers before landing a position at the Parson School of Design in New York City. The present work is part of a large series of notable cities and views across the U.S.

Notes: CONDITION: Light toning to sheet, otherwise very good, clean, attractive condition overall (not examined outside frame).
