Hope Meryman (American, 1931–1975): "Girl Blowing Bubbles," original color woodcut on cream Japan paper, 1965, 24" x 18", matted to an overall size of 28-3/4" x 22-3/4", signed and dated in pencil at lower right "Hope Meryman, 65."
Meryman, born in Los Angeles, studied with such notable figures as Antonio Frasconi, John Groth, Seong Moy and George Grosz. In addition to her extensive work in the medium of woodcuts, she also illustrated several children's books.
Notes: Mounting tape to top edge (hidden by mat); small, faint discoloration at lower left corner; a few minor cockles and wrinkles to sheet (which could be flattened); light soiling and staining to mat; otherwise very good condition
