Frank Paul Vigil (Native American, 1922–1979): "Apache Warrior on Horseback," silkscreen on wove paper, mid 20th century, signed in the image at lower right "Vigil," image size 12-3/4" x 10-1/2", sheet size 13-3/4" x 11".
Vigil, born on the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation in New Mexico, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Largely self-taught as an artist, he produced images related to his Apache heritage, working both as a painter and printmaker. His works are in the collections of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Denver Art Museum, Museum of Northern Arizona, Southwest Museum, and Southeast Museum of the North American Indian.
Notes: CONDITION: Remnant of paper tape to lower margin (well away from image); otherwise clean, bright, and very fine, with vibrant colors.
