Five pieces of antique ephemera related to Milford, New Hampshire, including two scarce blanket labels from Hillsborough Mills, circa 1900–1910, each with engraved illustration, description, and blanks for product information, backed with a thin oilcloth-like fabric, 5-1/4" x 4-1/4"; and three copies of the sheet music for "Ring Out Wild Bells" by Mrs. Abby Hutchinson Patton of the Hutchinson Family Singers, 1891.
Originally built in 1866 on the western edge of Milford, at the border with Wilton, Hillsborough Mills operated under multiple owners until the facility finally closed in 1970. The still-extant complex, now housing offices and retail operations, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The fabric backing suggests that these were made to be sewn directly to the blankets and removed by the eventual purchaser.
The Hutchinson Family Singers, whose homestead survives in Milford, became a nationwide touring sensation beginning in the 1840s and played a substantial role in popularizing four-part harmony in American popular song.
CONDITION: Labels with notations to the reverse (evidently related to mill business); music sheets with scattered soiling and edge wear; the labels otherwise clean, attractive, and near fine, the sheet music fair to good but complete
