Scarce and lovely covered jar by Rosenthal, Germany, 1943–48, porcelain in traditional ginger jar form with domed lid, hand-painted with poppies or similar flowers against a background of silver overlay in a network of fine irregular loops, approx. 10-1/4" tall overall, with underglaze green "Rosenthal, Bahnhof Selb, Germany" mark with crown and two roses, with additional "Handgemalt" and painted "Hammerschmidt" markings (the latter evidently the name of the painter/decorator).
An exquisite and seldom-seen example of one of Rosenthal's "deluxe" productions, featuring skillful, beautifully detailed painting—Rosenthal produced a series of these jars with different blossoms—and this distinctive surface treatment.
Notes: CONDITION: A few tiny, unobtrusive losses to silver, otherwise fine, attractive condition, with no cracks, chips, crazing, or staining.
