FINE ANTIQUE BISQUE BUST OF SCHILLER ATTR. TO ERNST BOHNE, GERMANY, 19TH CENTURY

Fine, scarce, and handsome bust of German poet and dramatist Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (1759–1805), attributed to Ernst Bohne & Söhne, Rudolstadt, Germany, last quarter 19th century, parian/bisque with hand-painted polychrome decoration, the figure resting on a round socle with integral square base with cut corners and faux marbling, the impressed name "Schiller" highlighted in gilt, 9" tall, the interior of the base impressed with the number 1886 and other indistinct marks.

A superb and striking late Victorian example with naturalistic, highly detailed modeling and expert, sensitive hand-painting.

CONDITION: In beautifully preserved, flawless condition, with no cracks, chips, crazing, or staining.
