Scarce and charming bowl made by Schöpflin Armandné, B. Apatfalva, Hungary, circa 1900 - 1910, earthenware/faience, the rim with stenciled geometric motifs in red and blue, the center with a hand-painted floral wreath and girl's name "Katika," approx. 9" in diameter, impressed "B. Apatfalva" in circle with SA monogram.
The SA manufactory specialized in these personalized wares, which have been found with a variety of Hungarian female names. Though molded in the traditional form of a soup plate or bowl with wide rim, the integral hanging hole on the back indicates that it was also intended for display on a wall, perhaps to be taken down and used only on birthdays or special occasions.
Notes: A few tiny, unobtrusive, superficial flakes to glaze (not affecting body), otherwise fine, attractive condition
