Handsome antique gathering or market basket, 19th–early 20th century, wide ash splint construction in rounded oblong form with bentwood handle, approx. 13-3/4" long by 9" wide by 9" tall overall (including handle).

A striking period example in an exceptionally well-preserved state for a basket made from this relatively vulnerable type of wide, thin splints.

CONDITION: Light soiling, otherwise fine condition, with no breaks or losses, retaining a pleasing, untouched original surface.
