Fine and handsome antique toleware bread tray or bowl, New England, mid 19th century, japanned tin with two integral curved handles, the interior of each side hand-painted in gold with floral and foliate motifs, the two longer sides centered by a moth or butterfly, the overall dimensions approx. 13-3/4" wide by 7-7/8" deep by 2-7/8" tall.
A beautifully painted example in a distinctive, appealing, still-functional form. Found in southern New Hampshire.
CONDITION: Scattered mild surface wear with a few tiny losses to japanning on top (more prominent on bottom); otherwise near fine, attractive, nicely preserved condition, with no bends, dents, losses, or rusting to metal, retaining a rich, pleasing, untouched original patina.
