Handsome antique mirror, New England, circa 1820–1840, pine painted and gilded over gesso, of traditional split-baluster form with elements alternating between black and gold, the four block corners with a stamped brass rosette, sight size of the mirror approx. 15-1/2" x 9-1/2", the overall dimensions approx. 19-1/4" x 13-1/4".
A good example of this classic Early American form. Found in south central New Hampshire.
CONDITION: Scattered surface wear (small scattered losses to paint; dime-sized loss to paint and gesso on one baluster where it meets the corner block); mirror plate and wooden backing later replacements; otherwise very good condition overall.
