ANTIQUE SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE SERVING DISH OR BOWL, VILLEROY & BOCH, GERMANY, 1852 - 1872

Scarce and handsome antique serving plate or bowl by Villeroy & Boch, Germany, 1852–1872, salt-glazed stoneware in pale gray-beige with silver luster detailing, deeply dished center, the rim elaborately molded with scroll, lattice, and basketweave motifs, raised circular foot, approx. 9-1/4" wide by 1-/8" tall, the underside with applied medallion impressed with the number 378 and VB monogram.

An uncommon and striking example closely based on an English model from the mid 18th century.

CONDITION: Light scattered rubbing to luster decoration; unobtrusive loss to tip of one scroll terminal at outer rim (evident only on close inspection); otherwise very good, attractive condition.
