ANTIQUE MATCH HOLDER "FAIRING" OF A KATE GREENAWAY GIRL BY CONTA & BOEHME, GERMANY, CIRCA 1880s

Scarce and charming antique fairing by Conta & Boehme, Germany, circa 1880s, hand-painted and gilt-accented porcelain in the form of a match holder with striker, depicting a Kate Greenaway–inspired young girl in winter attire, including hat and thick pink coat, her hands in a muff, standing beside an open carpet bag or satchel, the front of the base hand-inscribed "Ready to Start," 6" tall, the underside impressed with the arm-in-shield trademark and the numbers 4103 and 160.

A particularly charming example from this foremost maker of fairings and similar figurines.
