Wonderful and charming pair of candlesticks, German or Austrian, circa 1890–1900, earthenware with polychrome majolica-style glazes, one modeled as a young boy in fancy outfit with ruffed collar, a small dog tucked under his arm, standing beside an obelisk with Art Nouveau/Jugendstil motifs, the other modeled as a girl in long dress, apron, and bonnet, a kitten under one arm and a handbag in her other hand, standing beside a similar obelisk, 6-1/2" tall, the boy marked 10208, the girl marked 10209.
A scarce, colorful, beautifully preserved pair with plenty of personality and visual appeal.
CONDITION: A few small manufacturing irregularities (glaze skips and extra bits of stuck clay), and a few insignificant flea bites to edges of base, otherwise very fine, attractive condition.
