ANTIQUE FOOTSTOOL WITH MULTI-UPHOLSTERY HISTORY, 19TH CENTURY

ANTIQUE FOOTSTOOL WITH MULTI-UPHOLSTERY HISTORY, 19TH CENTURY

Winning Bid
$11.00
Item #1872
Lot #9 of 160
Item Description

Terrific and unusual antique footstool, American, 19th century, the shaped maple end pieces with decorative cutouts, retaining a long upholstery history (three layers, in chronological order: a Victorian patterned wool carpeting, a brown homespun or similar fabric of coarse weave, and a screenprinted felt souvenir textile from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair), the overall dimensions approx. 6-3/4" tall by 13" wide by 8" deep).

A striking example with plenty of personality, and perhaps a pleasant surprise for anyone inclined to remove the later layers of upholstery!

CONDITION: Wear and losses to World's Fair textile, principally at lower right (only small sections of the two earlier coverings visible at edges, but apparently in good, well-preserved condition); otherwise solid and sturdy, with rich, warm, pleasing patina.
