Scarce and interesting antique workman's cap or hat, 1910s–1920s, navy blue wool with stiff alligatored-finish bill, wide woven gray band embroidered "B.C.B. LEADER," no stated size (inner circumference approx. 23", roughly equivalent to hat size 7-1/4 to 7-3/8"), the interior stamped "N. Snellenburg & Co. Uniforms, 1421 Wallace St., Philadelphia."
This style of cap was used in various professions, ranging from policeman/fireman to train/streetcar conductor to band leader. "B.C.B." may be a reference to the Boys' Club of Boston, a youth welfare organization referred to by this abbreviation in a 1924 issue of the periodical Boys' Workers Round Table.
Notes: Liner loose at circumference of opening (but still firmly attached), and a few small, unobtrusive holes, otherwise near fine, clean, well-preserved condition, with no stains, or odors
