Fabulous pair of architectural brackets/shelves in the Eastlake/Aesthetic style, one circa 1880, the other a later, carefully made replica to complete a pair, walnut with molded edges featuring a platform atop a shield-shaped drop support centered by a medallion of richly figured burl flanked by two applied convex circular turnings, the overall dimensions approx. 10-3/4" tall by 18" wide by 4" deep. Light surface wear; older bracket with small surface loss to bottom of back edge (invisible from front); variation in tone and patina between the two brackets aligning with age difference; otherwise fine, attractive condition overall.
A handsome, versatile pair that could be used as shelves or accent pieces, or even inverted for use as a striking pair of bookends. While some difference in the respective finishes is noted, the two are quite complementary, and the replica displays a high degree of care and skill.
CONDITION: Light surface wear; older bracket with small surface loss to bottom of back edge (invisible from front); variation in tone and patina between the two brackets aligning with age difference; otherwise fine, attractive condition overall.
