Orson Byron Lowell (1871–1956) was an influential American artist and illustrator renowned for his contributions to magazine covers and interiors. Born in Wyoming, Iowa, Lowell's artistic talents flourished under the guidance of prominent mentors such as J.H. Vanderpoel and Oliver Dennett Grover at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1893, he relocated to New York City to pursue his career, eventually settling in New Rochelle, New York, a burgeoning art colony where he became a central figure alongside luminaries like Norman Rockwell and Edward Penfield.

Lowell's illustrations graced the pages of numerous prestigious magazines, including Life, Judge, Ladies' Home Journal, and Vogue, among others. His cartoons, often infused with social commentary, garnered acclaim, establishing him as a contemporary of the renowned Charles Dana Gibson. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Lowell was deeply involved in New York's arts community, holding positions in various arts clubs and organizations, including the Society of Illustrators and the Guild of Free Lance Artists.

In recognition of his enduring influence, Lowell's work was featured in notable exhibitions, such as "Toast of the Town: Norman Rockwell and the Artists of New Rochelle" at the Norman Rockwell Museum in 2002, highlighting his significant contributions to American illustration and the vibrant artistic community of New Rochelle.
